Department of Bengali
The Bengali Department since its inception in 1942 (also the foundation year of our institution) has served as a premier unit of Nabadwip Vidyasagar College, imbibing over time, a rich tradition of academic and cultural excellence. Eminent scholars, Narayan Gangopadhaya and Asit Kumar Bandopadhaya to name a few, have served as Professors in its initial years of existence.
The Department presently offers 2 UG courses :
- i) B.A Honours
- ii) B.A. General
It also offers a PG course -
- i) M.A. in Bengali through Directorate of Distance Learning (DODL), under the auspices of Kalyani University, the introduction of which has facilitated convenient dissemination of higher education to an ever increasing number of Graduates.
Apart from offering access to a vast collection of literary volumes and scholastic journals in the Central Library, the Department provides ample opportunities for freshmen and sophomores to explore their creativity through in-house symphosiums, cultural events, programmes, contests and educational excursions, a number of which have culminated in the acquisition of prestigious titles for the college (a notable example being Riya Das Adhikary, placed first in a State-wide Essay writing competition in West Bengal). Currently, the Department comprises of five full-time faculties namely,
1) Kalyani Roy (HoD)
2) Dr. Tapati Thakur
3) Dr. Chandrima Basu
4) Arunima Chakraborty, and
5) Rabindranath Hansda
The Department has the highest number of enrolment in both Honours and General courses every year. To conclude, it has always strived to discharge its duties with devotion and discipline over the course of about eight long decades, setting forth exemplary standards in cultural and academic accomplishments.
