Department of Botany
The Department of Botany, Nabadwip Vidyasagar College was established in the year 1976. Although the journey started with the study of general course only, honours course was introduced in 2001. Honours course followed 2+1 pattern upto 2008-09 and then from 2009-10 it was shifted to 1+1+1 pattern. Recently from 2018-19 UGC recommended Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) curriculum was introduced along with semester pattern. The CBCS curriculum caters an all round development of the students as it is a combination of general and specialised education simultaneously introducing the concepts of breadth and depth in learning.
At present there are two full time faculties (though one substantive post is still vacant), two state aided college teacher and one non-teaching staff (casual).
The department provides laboratory facilities to meet all corners of the curriculum. Along with the Central Library facilities of the college, there is a departmental library along with a reading room in our Department.Keeping pace with the advancement of technology in teaching-learning methods, our department is also equipped with a smart class room having ICT and audio-visual facilities.
Apart from the regular academic activities, the Department gets involved in many other curricular and extra curricular activities like seminars, wall magazine publication, educational excursions, parent-teacher meeting, cultural programs, annual sports meet, NCC and NSS activities.
Department always extend all kinds of advice and help to the ex-students for their career advancement.
